Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street. Fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening. ~Coco Chanel
I can’t decide if the title of this post is dumb or not. Oh well. It’s Monday.
Banana Republic has announced that Michelle Smith, the lovely lady behind the label Milly (which I adore), has designed a limited-edition capsule collection inspired by “the summer sophistication of the Hamptons.”
The women’s collection is a natural extension for Milly, with the men’s styles representing Smith’s first foray into designing menswear.
“It’s a very positive, happy collection and I think the colors and patterns really capture the modern spirit of summer,” says Smith, who has a fondness for vintage-inspired prints and patterns.
The collection’s maxi dresses, mini skirts, and women’s shorts come in a rainbow of colors, including lime, coral, and navy. Meanwhile, its menswear features a lineup of striped and patterned separates, including polos, woven T-shirts, and shorts.
Clothes range in price from $45 to $175 for women and $24.50 to $64.50 for men; jewelry and accessories range from $39.50 for baubles to $130 for totes.
The collection launches at select Banana Republic retail locations worldwide and online in late May 2013.
May can’t come soon enough!
Milly is one of my favorite labels and its Spring 2012 show did not disappoint. Bright colors (cobalt, red-orange, kelly green), geometric prints and, as usual, ’60s era design details were the name of the game.
The collection was “more linear and modern than it’s been, with an emphasis on clean shapes,” Milly designer Michelle Smith told New York magazine.
My top 3 picks from the show:
