Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street. Fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening. ~Coco Chanel
"The shimmer of a party dress, the glitz of flashing bulbs, the glamour of a night on the town— this holiday, it’s all about jet setting from party to party like a true movie star."
At least that’s what the good people at Michael Kors think. Now feast your eyes on the label’s Holiday 2012 ad campaign.
This is so much better than that Vuitton ad with Michael Phelps in a bathtub, right?
This time around, Phelps, donning a three-piece suit by Kim Jones, poses with gymnast Larisa Latynina, the olympian whose medal record he smashed in London.
This is one of 11 clever ads in J.Crew’s fall 2012 campaign featuring a mix of successful and fashionable influencers, like Julia Sarr-Jamois, fashion editor for Wonderland magazine (above); Le Figaro’s deputy editor Virginie Mouzatand; and David Karp, Tumblr’s founder and CEO.
Check out the entire campaign here.
Sound the fox horn. Round up the Morgans and the rest of the pack. Try to keep Noah out of the barn and Lea off of her horse. The tackroom is taken by Sam. The stableboys are all about Jax. Bernard is gunning for the prize. Eric’s tallying up the game cards. Meanwhile, Chloe’s got a little secret with a cold nose and a bushy tail. So get out your Wellies and tweed, jodhpurs and those adorable little hats. The game’s afoot…the fox is out of the bag…and oh, tally-ho, it’s going to be glorious!
The Hilfigers are up to their usual shenanigans with a quirky take on a classic hunt club.
I always look forward to Tommy Hilfiger’s fall ad campaigns. Serious eye candy.
And, no, that clever copy about the fictional Hilfigers isn’t mine. It was lifted from a company press release.
Michael Phelps is the latest celeb to hawk Louis Vuitton. The new ad was shot by Annie Leibovitz.
Jacquie “Tajah” Murdock will be starring in Lanvin’s fall ad campaign, but she isn’t your typical model.
The 82-year-old (no, that’s not a typo) former Apollo Theater dancer came to the house’s attention after being featured on Advanced Style.
Um, can I be this fierce at 82?!
Miss. Jacquie on being “discovered” (courtesy of Fashionista):
"I was walking down by Union Square, because I live in the Village, and a young man stopped me by the name of Ari Cohen and said ‘Miss, can I take your picture?’ This happens to me quite often, and I said, ‘For what?’ He said he had this website called Advanced Style for elders who are stylish. The jacket I had on was from Paris, and I threw my hands in the air and said ‘Ta-da!’"
The people at Lanvin saw her on a “Today” show segment about Advanced Style and the rest is history.
I know, I know…they’re members of a fictional family conceived to sell Tommy Hilfiger clothing. So what. They’re pretty and styled within an inch of their lives. (I keep three ring binders of inspirational photos from magazines and these have been added to my collection.)
I’m also digging the Wes Anderson-ish vibe. Definitely channeling “The Royal Tenenbaums” here.
