Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street. Fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening. ~Coco Chanel
I saw "Versailles ‘73: American Runway Revolution" over the weekend and it’s still on my mind.
The documentary chronicles a runway battle of sorts between five French designers and five American designers in November 1973. Conceived as a fundraiser for the restoration of the Palace of Versailles, the fashion show pitted the French haute couture establishment against scrappy American sportswear designers, and ultimately changed the course of fashion history.
It’s a fantastic documentary −dishy and entertaining− and I highly recommend it.
